Travel and Tourism

Recent years have seen an expansion in travel and tourism among older people. Everyone aged 66 and over, living permanently in Ireland, can get the Free Travel Scheme. The scheme allows people to travel, free of charge, on public transport and some private bus and ferry services. There are no restrictions on the times you can use your Free Travel. A greater proportion of older persons are participating in tourism for personal purposes (holidays) both in the domestic and outbound market.
