The South-West region (Cork and Kerry) is the largest agricultural region in the country, generating 21% of the State’s Agricultural Output at Basic Prices in 2025. Milk was responsible for 47% of the region’s output, with the region producing 31% of all Irish Milk. Cattle accounted for 24% of the region’s output and it is the second largest producer of Cattle, generating 16% of the State’s output. It is also the second largest Pig producing region and was responsible for creating 21% of the total value of Irish Pigs. Crops accounted for 14% of the region’s output.
The value of the South-West’s Agricultural Output at Basic Prices was up by 10% (+€259m) to €2.9bn. Cattle were responsible for €172m of this growth, with their value rising to €683m in 2025. Milk values were up 6% (+€83m) to €1.4bn. The value of Crop production contracted by 6% (-€25m) to €402m with Cereals down 8% (-€5m) to €53m and Other Crops decreasing by 16% (-€5m) to €24m.
The region experienced the highest rate of increase in Intermediate Consumption costs, which rose by 7% (+€114m) to €1.7bn. Fertilisers accounted for €34m of this increase, with Maintenance & Repairs, and Other Goods & Services each adding an additional €24m to costs. Receipts of Other Subsidies less Taxes on Production increased by 1% (+€2m) to €362m. The region had the lowest rate of increase in both Operating Surplus, which grew by 9% (+€90m) to €1.1bn, and Entrepreneurial Income, which rose by 10% (+€80m) to €887m (See Table 1.1 and PxStat Table ACA03).
