The Mid-West (Clare, Limerick, and Tipperary) is the second largest contributor to the value of Ireland's Agricultural Output at Basic Prices. It is the largest producer of Cattle, accounting for 19% of total domestic production. As the second largest Milk producing region, Milk is the region’s main agricultural output and the source of 38% of the value of its Agricultural Output at Basic Prices. Cattle is the second most important agricultural output to the region, generating 34% of its output.
The region had the second highest rate of growth in Agricultural Output at Basic Prices, which was up 14% (+€299m) to €2.4bn. Livestock generated €1.0bn of the region’s Output, an increase of 31% (+€235m) on 2024. Cattle were up €206m (+34%) to €807m, and despite falling Pig prices, the value of Pigs to the region was up 19% (+€15m) to €93m. The region’s Milk increased by 8% (+€69m) to €909m while its Crops were down 2% (-€7m) to €340m, with Potatoes accounting for €2m of this reduction.
Intermediate Consumption costs grew by 5% (+€65m) to €1.4bn with the additional expenditure on Fertilisers responsible for €22m (+22%) of this increase. Feeding Stuffs cost an extra €17m (+5%) and Other Goods & Services costs rose by €15m (+13%). With little change in the value of receipts of Other Subsidies less Taxes on Production, the region’s Operating Surplus grew by 29% (+€186m) to €835m. When the reductions in the costs of Net Interest and Land Rental are factored in, its Entrepreneurial Income was up by 43% (+€207m) to €687m (See Table 1.1 and PxStat Table ACA03).
