Road Safety and Road Lengths

This publication has been compiled during the COVID-19 crisis. The results contained in this publication reflect some of the economic impacts of the COVID-19 situation.

  • In 2020, 147 people were killed on Irish roads. This represents an increase of 7 fatalities when compared with 2019.
  • Data for 2020 show that 46.9% of people killed on Irish roads were car users and 21.8% pedestrians. 
  • Data on road traffic injuries and detailed data on road fatalities only becomes available following the conclusion of investigations by An Garda Síochána. Data up to 2019 is now available in tables 4.4 to 4.14.
