This publication has been compiled during the COVID-19 crisis. The results contained in this publication reflect some of the economic impacts of the COVID-19 situation.

Aviation transport

Air passenger data shows a substantial fall in passengers handled by Irish airports due to COVID-19 restrictions. A total of 8.3 million passengers passed through Irish airports in 2020, a decrease of 78.2% compared with 2019.
Dublin airport accounted for 87.3% of air passengers in Ireland. The number of passengers travelling through Dublin airport in 2020 fell by 77.8% compared with 2019.
In 2020, the Dublin - Heathrow route carried the most air passengers (445,413).
The most popular country of origin/destination was the UK with 37.2% of passengers, followed by Spain with 9.7% and the USA with 6.6% of all international travel.
Nearly one third (32.0%) of air freight was carried on a Boeing 767-300 aircraft while over half (56.0%) of all passengers were carried on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
