Crime

This section examines crime statistics relating to children which have been victims or suspected offenders of reported crimes.

This section also looks at young people and children under the age of 18 who have been referred to the Garda Youth Diversion Programme. The aim of the Diversion Programme is to prevent young people between the ages of 12 and 18 years of age from entering into the criminal justice system. Diverting young people from committing further offences is another intended outcome of the Programme. For certain serious crimes, young people aged 10 and 11 are also considered for inclusion in the Programme.
