Ireland exported €152 billion of goods in 2019 and imported €91 billion. We exported €47 billion of goods to the USA in 2019, our largest export market. We imported €14 billion from the USA in 2019. We exported €79 billion to Europe in 2019, of which €57 billion was to EU Member States and almost €16 billion was to the UK. There were over €57 billion of imports from Europe, of which €33 billion came from EU countries and over €20 billion came from the UK, our largest import partner.
Asia accounted for €17.4 billion of our exports in 2019. Almost half, €8.2 billion was exported to China, while €2.8 billion went to Japan. There were imports of €12.3 billion from Asia in 2019, with China and Japan again our largest partners from this region. Over €1.2 billion of Ireland’s imports of clothing and apparel came from Asia in 2019, comprising 61% of total imports of these products.
Ireland exported €1.7 billion to Africa and over €700 million to South America in 2019. Our largest export partner in Africa in 2019 was South Africa with exports of over €400 million, and our largest export partner in South America was Brazil, with exports of €305 million, while we imported €273 million from Argentina.
