Figure 9.1 as presented in the ANA 2022 publication on Friday 14th July 2023 represents the standard definition of Domestic Demand and is based on ANA 2022 Table 9.3 data [Table 9.3 Domestic Demand at Constant Market Prices (chain linked annually and referenced to year 2021]. The Domestic Demand chapter presentation has been augmented to include an additional figure, Figure 9.2, depicting the components of the deglobalized Modified Domestic Demand (MDD) data, to highlight that these data were presented on an annual basis for the first time in ANA 2022 in new ANA Table 9.7 [Table 9.7 Modified Domestic Demand at Constant Market Prices (chain linked annually and referenced to year 2021)]. These annual MDD variables had only been routinely published previously in Table 5.4 of the Quarterly National Accounts (QNA).
Final Domestic Demand, comprises of:
(a) Personal consumption of goods and services
(b) Net expenditure by central and local government
(c) Gross domestic fixed capital formation
Final Domestic Demand grew by 6.7% in real terms in 2022 compared with 2021. When the Value of physical changes in stocks and net acquisitions of valuables are taken into account, Total Domestic Demand increased by 8.3% in the year.
Annual values of the de-globalised measure Modified Domestic Demand are being presented for the first time in the Annual National Accounts for 2022. The euro million values and annual percentage changes contained in Tables 9.5, 9.6, 9.7 and 9.8 in this publication align with those presented in Quarterly National Accounts Q1 2023 (Final) Table 5.4.
Modified Final Domestic Demand, comprises of:
(a) Personal consumption of goods and services
(b) Net expenditure by central and local government
(c) Modified Gross domestic fixed capital formation – Excludes investment in Aircraft related to Leasing, and R&D service imports and trade in IP
Modified Final Domestic Demand expanded by 9.5% in year 2022 over 2021 in real terms while Modified Total Domestic Demand (which also includes the value of physical changes in stocks and net acquisitions of valuables) increased by 11.4% over the same period.
