This indicator refers to the distance of individuals and residential dwellings to everyday services in Ireland. The statistics were first published in 2019. From 2026, a series of updated releases on distances to services will be published, starting with distance to a range of health services. The 2019 statistics will be replaced with the 2026 statistics as the series progresses.
Please note that Cities and Highly rural/remote towns are two statistics from a six-way categorisation of urban and rural areas. Further information can be found here in Urban and Rural Life in Ireland, 2025.
