The impact of education on personal and societal Well-being cannot be overstated, with impacts on income, general health and life expectancy being perhaps the more obvious areas where educational attainment impacts on Well-being. The indicators here will focus on the primary educational building blocks of reading and mathematical abilities as well as looking at how many people commit to lifelong learning – that pursuit of education and knowledge throughout one’s career and life. The leveraging of education for innovation in our economy is captured, for the moment, by having a sense of how many people work in research and development.
