A total of 2,641,590 Irish driving licences were held at the end of 2013, of which 9% were learner permit licences.
More than 105,000 driving tests were conducted in 2013 with an average pass rate of 51.8%.
Compared with 2012, the number of driving tests conducted in 2013 increased by 0.9%, the number on the waiting list at the end of the year decreased by 28% and the average waiting time for a test fell by 11%.
Almost 1.2 million (1,170,874) cars underwent the National Car Test (NCT) in 2013. Almost 47% passed the initial test while over 94% of cars passed after one or more tests.
