Exports of Food and live animals to the UK have increased from €2.3 billion in 2000 to almost €4.8 billion in 2018. This category of exports accounted for 12% of Ireland’s total exports to the UK in 2000, increasing to 30% of exports to the UK by 2018.
Exports of Machinery and transport equipment have fallen from €8 billion in 2000 to €2.2 billion in 2018, and now constitute 14% of total UK exports, down from 42% in 2000.

Food and live animals are also the largest import category from the UK, with €3.8 billion imported in 2018, compared to €1.6 billion imported in 2000. In 2000, Food and live animal imports accounted for 9% of total UK imports, and this had increased to 19% by 2018.
Imports of Mineral fuels were €1.3 billion of Ireland’s total imports from the UK in 2000, representing 7% of total imports from the UK. By 2011, 28% of imports from the UK were Mineral fuels. In 2018, there were €3.4 imports of Mineral fuels, representing 17% of UK imports.
