Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) today (30 January 2023) published a Preliminary GDP Estimate for Quarter 4 (Q4) 2022.
Commenting on the release, Shauna Allen, Statistician in the National Accounts Data Collection and Quality Division, said: “In today’s release, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is estimated to have increased by 3.5% in Q4 2022 in volume terms when compared with Q3 2022 and by 13.5% when compared with the same quarter of 2021. This is the first time that the CSO has published a preliminary estimate of GDP 30 days after the end of the reference quarter.
The estimate is based on information from the CSO Large Cases Unit, Retail sales, Administrative Payroll Data and other indicators of activity. A more detailed estimate of GDP and its components will be published in the Quarterly National Accounts (QNA) for Q4 2022 in early March.”
