Key findings

  • Latest data available show that car traffic volumes are now at 90% of pre-pandemic October 2019 levels in the Dublin area and 91% of October 2019 levels in regional locations
  • Latest data available show that heavy goods vehicles (HGV) traffic volumes are lower in Dublin and 12% lower in regional sites compared with the same week in 2020
  • There were 115 fatalities on Irish roads in the first ten months of 2021 compared with 127 in the same period in 2020
  • The number of new cars licensed in October 2021 decreased by 307 vehicles compared with October 2020 and rose by 668 vehicles compared with pre-pandemic October 2019
  • The total number of rail and bus journeys is now 59% of those taken in early March 2020 (pre COVID-19)
  • The number of passengers travelling through Dublin airport in September 2021 rose by 7.9% compared with the previous month
