Over one in five workers with pension cover have both occupational and personal pensions
At an overall level, pension cover has remained unchanged from 2024. Of those in employment who had a pension in Quarter 3 (Q3) 2025, almost seven in ten (69%) had occupational pension coverage only (from current or previous employments) while over one in five (21%) have both occupational and personal pension cover for their retirement and one in nine (11%) workers had personal pension cover.
The prevalence of pension cover from both occupational and personal pension schemes for males and females remained unchanged in 2025 compared to 2024 – 22% of males with pension cover had both occupational and personal pension schemes, compared with nearly one in five (19%) female workers.

Over three-quarters of workers (with pension cover) in the Industry (78%) and Education (77%) NACE economic sectors had occupational pension cover only. Just around one in five working in these sectors (with pension cover) had both occupational and personal pension cover - Industry (17%) and Education (20%).
Almost one-quarter (24%) of Managers, Directors, and Senior Officials and some 23% of Professionals (with pension cover) had both occupational and personal pension schemes, compared with only one in ten (13%) workers with pension cover in the Administrative and Secretarial and one in seven (14%) of Sales and Customer Service and Process, Plant, and Machine Operatives broad occupational groups.

Elementary occupations involve the performance of simple and routine tasks which may require the use of hand-held tools and considerable physical effort. Examples include cleaning, restocking supplies and performing basic maintenance tasks, helping in kitchens and performing simple tasks in food preparation, delivering messages or goods, etc.
