In 2023, more than a third (36%) of enterprises in Ireland had e-commerce sales. An e-commerce sale is a sale conducted over computer networks via websites, apps or Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) of goods or services. For large enterprises, 51% had internet sales, compared with 47% of medium sized firms and 33% of small enterprises.
In the Manufacturing sector, four in ten (40%) firms conducted sales by internet in 2023. Almost a quarter (24%) of enterprises in the sector made sales by EDI, with a similar proportion (23%) indicating they conducted sales through websites.
Almost four in ten (39%) Services firms conducted sales electronically in 2023 with more than a third (35%) of enterprises in services conducting sales through websites, and almost one in ten (9%) indicating they made sales by EDI.
In 2023, almost 9% of Construction firms conducted sales by internet, with more than 5% of firms conducting sales through websites, and 3% indicating they made sales by EDI.
