Kerosene clearances were 11% lower in January to June 2026 compared with the same six-month period in 2025 (See Table A).
Autodiesel clearances were 2% lower in the first six months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025 (See Table A).
Unleaded Petrol clearances were 6% higher in the 12-month rolling period of July 2025 to June 2026 compared with July 2024 to June 2025 (See Table A).
Marked Gas Oil clearances decreased by 1% in the 12-month rolling period of July 2025 to June 2026 compared with July 2024 to June 2025 (See Table A).
An annual Fuel Excise Clearances PxStat Table has been added to this statistical release, see FPA01.
The data used in this release mainly relate to the Revenue Commissioners monthly excise clearance volumes. The use of transport fuels such as Autodiesel and Unleaded Petrol are less seasonal than the use of home heating fuels. Price changes and exceptional weather can cause variations in the trends of excise clearances of home heating oils between years. Changes in the vehicle fleet fuel type composition can affect the mix in clearances of road fuels. See the Background Notes for the full definition of fuel excise clearances.
Kerosene clearances decreased by 10.9% in January to June 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. There was a 1.7% decrease in Autodiesel excise clearances while Marked Gas Oil clearances decreased by 2.2% and Unleaded Petrol clearances, however, increased by 5.6% for the first six months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025 (See Table A).

Unleaded Petrol clearances in the 12-month rolling period of July 2025 to June 2026 compared with July 2024 to June 2025 were around 65 million litres higher, an increase of around 6%. Overall, there were 100 million litres in Unleaded Petrol clearances for June 2026. This was the highest volume of Unleaded Petrol clearances for June since 2017.
Autodiesel clearances were 2.8% lower in the 12-month rolling period of July 2025 to June 2026 compared with July 2024 to June 2025. This equates to a decrease of around 96 million litres in Autodiesel clearances.
Marked Gas Oil clearances for the 12-month rolling period of July 2025 to June 2026 compared with July 2024 to June 2025 were 1.3% lower.
Kerosene clearances for the 12-month rolling period of July 2025 to June 2026 compared with July 2024 to June 2025 were 5.7% lower, a decrease of around 55 million litres.
In 2025 Autodiesel excise clearances were 3.4 billion litres which was 71.0% higher than the 2000 Autodiesel clearances figure of 2 billion litres. In 2025 Unleaded Petrol excise clearances were 1.1 billion litres which was 42.5% lower than the 2000 Unleaded Petrol clearances figure of 2 billion litres (See Figure 2 and Table 2).
Figure 3 (See below) shows trends in the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for selected fuels. Wholesale prices of Gas oil (other than autodiesel) and Fuel oil remain high in June 2026 although both decreased from May to June. Wholesale prices of Autodiesel and Petrol also decreased from May to June. This Wholesale Price Index series is compiled to base 2021=100.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (28 September 2026) published Fuel Excise Clearances June 2026.
Commenting on the release, Dr. Robert Stapleton, Statistician in the Climate and Energy Division, said: "Kerosene clearances were 11% lower in the first six months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. In the 12-month rolling period of July 2025 to June 2026 compared with July 2024 to June 2025, Kerosene clearances have decreased by 6%. This equates to a decrease of around 55 million litres in Kerosene clearances.
Autodiesel clearances have also decreased this year. In the 12-month rolling period of July 2025 to June 2026 compared with July 2024 to June 2025 they were 3% lower. This equates to a decrease of around 96 million litres in Autodiesel clearances.
Unleaded petrol clearances rose by 6% over the same 12-month rolling period. This equates to an increase of around 65 million litres in Unleaded Petrol clearances.
Marked Gas Oil clearances declined by 2% in the first six months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, a reduction of around 13 million litres.
Clearances are the duty paid on the quantity of oil removed from bonded warehouses and provide a proxy for sales (See Editor’s Note below).
