The Central Statistics Office (CSO) is today (17 January 2025) asking people to take part in our latest short, online Pulse Survey: COVID-19 – Our Lives Five Years On.
March 2025 will mark five years since the threat of COVID-19 changed life for people in Ireland almost overnight. Our short survey aims to measure the impact of the changes, if any, that you and your family have experienced over that period.
This CSO Pulse Survey goes live today and can be accessed via our social media channels or from our website. It is open to everyone aged 18 years and over living in Ireland. The survey will close at midnight on 03 February 2025 and the results will be published in March, to coincide with the anniversary of the introduction of restrictions in Ireland in response to the pandemic.
Fiona O’Riordan, head of the CSO’s Social Data Collection section, said: “In this survey, we ask you to tell us about how your life has changed in the last five years. Does widespread remote working impact on your job satisfaction, work-life balance, or your opportunities for promotion? Did school or college closures impact your or your children’s education and social development? Have your personal relationships been affected, or has your attitude to exercise or social media changed?
By opting to take part in this short survey, you will provide valuable insight into the impact of the pandemic on the lives of people in Ireland. The survey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete and can be done on any type of device, including a mobile phone.
Taking part in this Pulse Survey gives you the opportunity to add your voice to this important record of how we as a nation responded and dealt with the pandemic.”

About CSO Pulse Surveys
CSO Pulse Surveys are short and frequent online surveys which take the ‘pulse’ of the nation about a particular topic at a particular point in time. They usually ask opinion-type questions or seek to gauge the public’s attitude to certain events or issues. CSO Pulse Surveys, which are part of the CSO’s Take Part Campaign, help the CSO to provide relevant and timely data on topics that affect us all. Pulse Surveys give us a better understanding of how people feel about issues that affect all our lives.
CSO Pulse Surveys are different from other household and enterprise surveys conducted by the CSO. The CSO conducts many different types of surveys throughout the year on topics such as health, travel, crime, and well-being, which help inform the public and policy makers. While individuals and households who take part in these types of surveys are randomly selected by the CSO, CSO Pulse Surveys give people the opportunity to voluntarily take part in the survey. We want your story to become part of the story of Ireland.
However, it is important to note that whether your take part in a CSO Pulse Survey or one conducted by our Survey Team, protecting your confidentiality is at the heart of everything we do. Your confidentiality is protected by law which means no individual, household, or enterprise can be identified from the data we publish. We only use the data you provide for statistical purposes.
To learn more about why you can trust the CSO with your information, please see the Trust and Transparency section of our website.
