PRODCOM Product Sales 2006

Product sales reach €108.6 billion in 2006

The Central Statistics Office today published results from the 2006 PRODCOM inquiry on its website at

http://www.cso.ie/px/pxeirestat/database/eirestat/Industry.asp

Over half of Irish product sales are classified in the following five NACE classes

  • Manufacture of computers and other information processing equipment
  • Manufacture of pharmaceutical preparations
  • Reproduction of computer media
  • Manufacture of other organic basic chemicals
  • Manufacture of other food products n.e.c.

Prodcom is the European Union’s standard classification of production statistics. It contains almost 4500 products, of which approximately half are produced and/or sold by Irish industrial enterprises. Its scope relates to the NACE activity codes from 13 to 36. Confidential totals are denoted on the file by the value –999,999.

Details of EU aggregates and individual member state data can be found on the Europa website at

http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/portal/page?_pageid=2594,63266845&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

There is a direct link between this classification of products and the classification used in foreign trade statistics, the Combined Nomenclature. It is thus possible to combine production and trade data to derive related indicators such as consumption.
