The value of All Services output was 13.2% higher in August 2026 when compared with August 2025.
The volume of All Services was down by 2.5% in August 2026 when compared with July 2026.
All Services were 12.2% higher in volume terms in August 2026 when compared with August 2025.
The largest monthly decreases in August 2026 were recorded in the Transportation & Storage sector with a decrease of 5.3% in value and 8.1% in volume.
The largest monthly increases in August 2026 were recorded in the Professional, Scientific & Technical Activities sector with an increase of 3.4% in value and 2.1% in volume.
The Modified Monthly Services Index, which represents All Services excluding the Information & Communication sector, was down by 0.6% in value and by 1.3% in volume in August 2026 when compared with July 2026.
Please note that recent adjustments to the Services Producer Prices Index (SPPI) will be integrated into the Monthly Services Index (MSI) in the coming months. Figure 1 shows the seasonally adjusted value and volume indices for the Monthly Service Index, while Table 1 highlights both the monthly and annual percentage change in both value and volume. Value indices represent turnover, whereas volume indices represent deflated turnover which strips out the impact of price changes. Volume indices show changes in the amount of business activity in the services sector over time.

The Modified Monthly Services Index has been developed in response to stakeholders who sought additional insights into the services economy. This indicator consists of All Services excluding the Information & Communication sector, which has a significant impact on the overall index of All Services due to its scale.
In August 2026, the Modified Monthly Services Index, which represents All Services excluding Information and Communication sector, was down by 0.6% in value and fell by 1.3% in volume when compared with July 2026. Annually, the Modified Monthly Services Index increased by 2.3% in value and was down by 0.2% in volume when compared with August 2025.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (09 October 2026) published Monthly Services Index August 2026 (Provisional) and July 2026 (Final).
Commenting on the release, Tommy Allen, Statistician in the Enterprise Statistics Division said: “In August 2026, the overall index of All Services showed monthly decreases in both value (-2.5%) and volume (-2.5%).
The largest monthly value decreases were recorded in Transportation & Storage (-5.3%) and Information & Communication (-3.5%). Monthly value increases were recorded in Professional, Scientific & Technical Activities (+3.4%) and Administrative & Support Services Activities (+1.3%). In volume terms, the largest monthly decline was observed in the Transportation & Storage sector (-8.1%) while Professional, Scientific & Technical Activities (+2.1%) and Accommodation & Food Service Activities (+0.7%) recorded monthly increases. The Modified Monthly Services Index, which represents All Services excluding Information & Communication, was down by 0.6% in value and by 1.3% in volume when compared with July 2026.
Looking at changes on an annual basis, the All Services index was 13.2% higher in value terms and rose by 12.2% in volume in August 2026 when compared with August 2025. This increase was largely driven by the strong annual performance observed in the Information & Communication sector, up by 20.1% in value and by 20.7% in volume. The Modified Monthly Services Index, which shows All Services excluding Information & Communication, rose by 2.3% in value and fell by 0.2% in volume when compared with August 2025."
