Fraud Crime Statistics

The CSO in December 2024 and March 2025 provided updates to users on the impact on Fraud crime statistics of the backlog in the recording of potential fraud related crime incidents reported to An Garda Síochána by Financial Institutions under Section 19 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2011 on the PULSE system.

The CSO is advised by An Garda Síochána that it continues to work on the backlog of Section 19 referrals from Financial Institutions and is making progress on this issue. In addition, work is ongoing by An Garda Síochána to extend an existing reporting portal to handle Section 19 referrals. This system will improve the consistency and efficiency of the reporting process for Financial Institutions.

In view of this ongoing work, the CSO will continue to publish statistics on recorded crime incidents of Fraud, Deception & Related offences based on those directly reported to An Garda Síochána by members of the public and recorded on the Garda PULSE system. Therefore, users should continue to exercise caution in the interpretation of published statistics on recorded crime incidents of this offence type as they are below the overall reported level and should be considered incomplete.

Table 4.1 provides further breakdown by offence group of the total number of recorded crime incidents for the year to Quarter 3 (Q3) 2025 compared with the year to Q3 2024.

There were 67 recorded incidents of Homicide & Related offences in the year to Q3 2025 and this was down by 22 incidents or 25% from the same period in 2024. Decreases in incidents of Dangerous Driving Leading to Death (-27 incidents or -53%) accounted for most of the change over the year.

Recorded crime incidents of Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences fell by 313 incidents or 13% over the year and this was driven mainly by a fall in incidents of Robbery from the Person (-216 incidents or -19%) and Robbery of an Establishment or Institution (-104 incidents or -23%).

The fall of 1,240 recorded crime incidents or 12% over the year in the number of recorded incidents of Burglary & Related offences was driven by a fall of 1,126 incidents or 12% in the number of incidents of burglary where there was no aggravation.

Among the offence groups, where the number of crime incidents increased over the period were Attempts or Threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences (+3%), Weapons & Explosives offences (+1%), and Public Order & Other Social Code offences (+2%).

The number of recorded crime incidents of Sexual offences remained virtually unchanged over the period.
