Total networked gas supply in September 2023 was 3,694 gigawatt-hours (GWh). The September supply figure was 1.2% lower than the August 2023 figure of 3,737 GWh (See Table 1A).
Gas imports accounted for 72% of total metered supply in September 2023 with production from the Corrib gas field and production from biomethane accounting for the remaining 28% (See Tables 1A, 1B, and 1C).
In 2018, indigenous production at 35,302 GWh exceeded imports which were 24,935 GWh. Indigenous production has decreased each year since 2018 whereas imports have increased each year (See Tables 1B and 1C).
Comparing September 2023 with September 2022, gas consumption decreased for all categories of customer: non-daily metered (-8%), daily metered (-4%), large daily metered (-0.4%), and power plants (-16%) (See Tables 2A to 2E).
This release replaces the previous Networked Gas Daily Consumption monthly release. Gas Networks Ireland (GNI) provided the CSO with supply data on daily gas production and on daily gas imports. These gas supply tables have been added to this release. GNI have also been able to extend the time series backwards from 2021 to include 2018 to 2020.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (14 December 2023) published Networked Gas Daily Supply and Demand September 2023.
Commenting on the release Deirdre Moran, Statistician in the Environment and Climate Division, said: “Total networked gas supply was 3,694 gigawatt hours (GWh) for September 2023, which was 12.5% lower than the September 2022 figure (See Table 1A).
Imports accounted for 72% of the total supply figure while indigenous production from the Corrib gas field and from biomethane plants made up the remaining 28% (See Tables 1B and 1C).
Total metered gas demand in September 2023 was 3,690 GWh which was 12.5% below the September 2022 figure of 4,217 GWh (See Table 2A).
Gas consumption by power plants in September 2023 was 2,625 GWh which comprised 71% of total gas demand in that month (See Tables 2A and 2B)."
