The MNE dominated sectors of the economy expanded by 1.1% in the second quarter of 2025. The Industry (excluding Construction) sector expanded by 2.5% in the quarter, while the Information & Communication sector grew by 1.8% in the quarter. Overall, the non-MNE sectors contracted by 0.1% in the quarter. However, there was robust growth in the domestic facing Construction and Real Estate Activities sectors which increased by 6.0% and 2.9% respectively. More modest growth was seen in the Distribution, Transport, Hotels & Restaurants sector which grew by 0.3%. Notable declines were seen in Professional & Administrative Services which decreased by 4.9% and Financial & Insurance Activities which fell by 3.4%. Other sectors with quarter-on-quarter decreases were Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing (-2.4%), Arts & Entertainment (-1.3%) and Public Administration, Education & Health (-0.1%). Estimates for the second quarter of 2025 indicate that there was an increase of 17.1% in GDP in real terms in Q2 2025 compared with Q2 2024. Gross Value Added (GVA) for the MNE-dominated sectors expanded by 34.5% in Q2 2025 compared with Q2 2024. The Industry (excluding Construction) sector increased by 40.0% in Q2 compared with the equivalent quarter of 2024 while the Information and Communication sector rose by 17.3% year-on-year over the same period.
Of the domestic based economic sectors, Construction increased by 20.8% year-on-year while Distribution, Transport, Hotels & Restaurants grew by 2.3% over the same period. Other sectors to record growth in Q2 2025 compared to the equivalent quarter last year were Real Estate Activities (5.7%), Public Administration, Education & Health (1.7%) and Financial and Insurance Activities (0.9%). Contractions were seen in Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing (-8.4%), Professional & Administrative Services (-7.4%) and the Arts & Entertainment sector (-1.7%).
Overall, the domestic based sectors grew by 1.2% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025 compared with Q2 2024. (See Tables 2.3 and 6.2).
