On the expenditure side of the accounts (Table 3.5), Capital Investment, showed an increase of €1.6 billion in Q2 compared with the previous quarter and accounted for 36.1% of total domestic demand in Q2 2021.
Personal Consumption Expenditure increased by 12.6% in Q2 compared to Q1, while Government expenditure showed an increase of 0.9% over the same period. Combining this with the growth in net exports, there was an overall increase in real GDP of 6.3% in Q2 compared to Q1.

Comparisons with Q2 2020
On the expenditure side of the accounts (Table 3.3) Capital Investment contracted by €2.3 billion. Personal Consumption showed an increase of 19.4% reflecting ongoing lifting of COVID-19 related restrictions to economic activity while Government expenditure increased by 2.0% over the same period.
