Please note: Employments active for less than 50 weeks in the reference year are excluded from the calculations for annual earnings. This is done to improve comparability of the data over time. Typically, the proportion of employments retained for annual earnings analysis is relatively consistent at both the total economy and economic sector level. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labour market, the proportion of employments retained for annual earnings analysis differs from previous years, specifically for those sectors most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Median annual earnings rose by 3.3% from €44,816 in 2024 to €46,305 in 2025. The median annual earnings for employments among males (€50,520) were 21.0% higher than among females (€41,765). In contrast to previous years, males recorded a larger percentage change (14.5%) over the five-year period from 2020 to 2025 compared with their female counterparts (11.5%).
In a similar trend to 2024, median annual earnings were highest in the Information & Communication (€83,329), Financial, Insurance & Real Estate (€62,031), and Public Administration & Defence (€58,822) sectors in 2025, while the lowest median annual earnings were recorded among employments in Accommodation & Food Services (€27,235) and Arts, Entertainment, Recreation & Other Services (€29,603).
Median annual earnings increased across all economic sectors since 2024. Employments in Financial, Insurance & Real Estate and Industry recorded the largest annual increases in 2025, at 5.1% and 4.9% respectively, while employments in Professional, Scientific & Technical Activities recorded an increase of 1.0% in median annual earnings.
