Purchasing Power Parities (PPP) surveys run by the CSO are funded by the European Union through annual grants administered by Eurostat.
For the overall category Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Switzerland was the most expensive of the 36 countries, with prices on average 59% above the EU27 average, while North Macedonia was the least expensive, 27% below the EU27 average. Irish prices were 14% above the EU27 average.
Luxembourg was the most expensive country for Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages within the European Union and the Eurozone (20 Eurozone countries). Romania was the least expensive of the European Union countries, while Slovakia was the least expensive within the Eurozone.
Of the 36 countries, Ireland was the 6th most expensive for Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages. Ireland was the 3rd most expensive of the EU27 countries, and 2nd most expensive of the Eurozone countries.
