Purchasing Power Parities (PPP) surveys run by the CSO are funded by the European Union through annual grants administered by Eurostat.
Of the 36 countries, the most expensive country for Food was Switzerland, with prices on average 61% above the EU27 average. Luxembourg was the most expensive country for Food in the EU and Eurozone.
Of the 36 countries, Ireland was the 6th most expensive for Food and 2nd most expensive of the Eurozone countries.
Table 5.1 below shows the summary results, while Figure 5.1 and Map 5.1 shows the detailed results for the 36 countries.
The results for the main Food sub-categories, in the next few chapters, show that, of the 36 countries, Ireland was the 7th most expensive country for Bread and Cereals, 14th most expensive for Meat, 13th most expensive for Fish, 15th most expensive for Milk, Cheese, and Eggs, 20th most expensive for Oils and Fats and 11th most expensive for Fruits, Vegetables, and Potatoes.
In the Eurozone, Ireland was the 3rd most expensive country for Bread and Cereals, 9th most expensive for Meat, 8th most expensive for Fish, 8th most expensive for Milk, Cheese, and Eggs, 12th most expensive for Oils and Fats and the 6th most expensive country for Fruits, Vegetables, and Potatoes.
