The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (06 October 2025) launched a new interactive calculator that lets users easily see how their household finances compare with other households in Ireland across three key areas: income, spending, and wealth.
The new Household Finances Calculator interactive tool lets people compare their household’s net income with others of similar size and age profile. The more people in a household, the more they need to earn, spend, and save, to enjoy an equivalent standard of living.
People can also input their grocery costs, fuel, and electricity bills to see how their weekly, monthly, or yearly spend compares with households of the same size.
You can also compare your household in terms of net wealth with other households around the country. Net wealth is the value of everything you own minus the amount you owe in debt.
The data underpinning this Household Finances Calculator is from the Household Budget Survey (HBS), the Survey on Income and Living Conditions (SILC), and the Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS). More than 70,000 households throughout the country are surveyed each year by CSO staff. Taking part in our surveys helps the CSO produce independently verified official statistics that can be used to inform decision making across all aspects of society in Ireland. We wish to thank everyone who has completed our surveys to date, and if you are contacted by the CSO Interview Team, we urge you to please take part. You can learn more about why you can trust the CSO on our website.
The Household Finances Calculator is part of a set of Interactive Data Visualisations which help users to easily engage with our statistics across a number of themes and topics. Explore the most popular baby names or the country’s top motors. You can also use our Census mapping tools to discover more about your neighbourhood, check out house prices by Eircode, or learn about regional agriculture in AgriMap. Simply click on each app to learn more about it.
