The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (10 June 2022) released Planning Permissions Quarter 1 2022.
Commenting on the release, Sorcha O'Callaghan, Statistician in the Business Statistics Division, said: "The number of dwelling units granted planning permission in January, February and March of 2022, or Q1, was 8,463, of which 4,687 were houses and 3,776 were apartments. The number of houses approved increased by 51.7% in the year since the first quarter of 2021, compared with an annual decrease of 2.5% in apartment units, resulting in a total annual increase of 21.5% in dwelling units approved.
For the first time since Q2 2019, more houses than apartments were granted planning permission. The number of one-off houses granted permission was 2,081, this is the highest figure since Q3 2009 and represents an annual increase of 25.3%.
Planning permission was granted for 1,824 apartments in Dublin county in Q1 2022, accounting for more than 48% of total apartment units granted approval in the state. The Border Region (Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan and Sligo) had the lowest number of apartment units granted permission at 41."
