The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (01 March 2022) released Air and Sea Travel Statistics January 2022.
Commenting on the release, Gregg Patrick, Statistician, said: “The Air and Sea Travel Statistics for January 2022 show a decrease in overseas travel compared to the preceding month. In January 2022, 584,100 overseas passengers arrived in Ireland, compared to 692,900 in December 2021, a decrease of 16%. In January 2022, 562,300 overseas passengers departed from Ireland, compared to 732,700 in December 2021, a decrease of 23%.
The January 2022 statistics show that continental routes contributed most to the passenger traffic. Some 355,200 passengers arrived on continental routes and 296,800 passengers departed on continental routes. By way of contrast, 164,700 passengers arrived on cross-channel routes and 203,600 passengers departed on cross-channel routes. Just 40,200 passengers arrived on transatlantic routes and 40,800 passengers departed on these routes.
Apart from Great Britain (which accounted for all cross-channel routes), the most important routing countries for overseas travel in January 2022 were Spain (88,900 arrivals, 77,500 departures), France (39,100 arrivals, 33,000 departures) and the United States (34,700 arrivals, 35,700 departures)."
