Go to release: New Dwelling Completions Q4 2018
The CSO has today, (7 February 2019), released figures for new dwelling completions in the fourth quarter of 2018.
Commenting on the release, Laura Flannelly, Statistician, observed: “There were 5,522 new dwelling completions in Q4 2018 compared with 4,567 in Q4 2017, an increase of 21%. This brings the number of new dwellings completed in 2018 to 18,072, an increase of 25% on 2017.
There were 11,001 new scheme dwellings completed in 2018, compared with 7,916 in 2017, an increase of 39%. Scheme dwellings accounted for 61% of all new dwellings in 2018, the highest proportion since the beginning of the series in 2011. Single dwellings accounted for 26% of all new dwellings in 2018, the lowest proportion in the series to date, while apartments made up the remaining 13% of new dwelling completions.
Most new dwelling completions in 2018 were in the Dublin and Mid-East regions accounting for 60% of the total. Dublin 15 was the Eircode area with the highest number of new dwelling completions in 2018 (799).”
Today’s release also includes an additional indicator for the first time, the CSO's Average New Dwelling Size Index. This has been developed by linking ESB domestic connections to BER assessment data from the SEAI. Overall, the index is 26% lower than its highest level in 2012. Scheme dwellings as a proportion of new dwelling completions has increased, leading to a continued decline in the average size of new dwellings.
