Ireland's Facts and Figures 2018

The estimated population of Ireland in 2017 was 4,857,000 with 68,500 more women than men
  • In 2016, there were 1,189 sets of twins, 24 sets of triplets and 2 sets of quadruplets born
  • There were 189,147 people in third level education in 2016/2017 compared to 20,698 people in 1965/1966
  • The share of people who were overweight or obese was 62% in 2017
  • In Quarter 2, 2018 almost 12% of children aged 0-17 were living in jobless households
  • Loans for house purchases totalled €74.8 billion in 2017, an increase of 1.8% or €1.3 billion on 2016
