Our statistics about Ireland are independent and reliable, because you told us.
The information you give us lets us create a very accurate picture of what it means to live in Ireland today—our lives, our economy, our health, our education, our happiness and well-being.
The Crime and Victimisation Survey (CVS) is a voluntary survey of individuals carried out by the Central Statistics Office (CSO). This important survey gathers information on your experience, and your household’s experience, of crime and victimisation in Ireland in the last twelve months. Topics include:
It also collects your opinions on anti-social behaviour, crime prevention and the criminal justice system.
The CVS gives us a clearer picture of the prevalence of crime and victimisation in Ireland. The most recent survey on this topic by the CSO was undertaken in 2019, so it is important to get an up-to-date view of how crime and victimisation impacts our lives.
It is important that we collect information both from people who have experienced any form of crime and victimisation and from those who have not.
We depend on your information, so please take part because your voice matters.
The survey includes questions on various topics related to crime and victimisation, such as:
Randomly selected individuals will receive an invitation letter from the CSO to participate in the survey. Participation is voluntary, and all responses are confidential and anonymised in accordance with the Statistics Act, 1993.
Taking part online is straightforward and easy: you can access the survey via the link below or via the QR code provided in your invitation letter. You will then be asked to enter your access key, as printed in your letter, to begin the survey.

Please note that online survey submission is only available for a few weeks. Following this, a representative from the CSO will be in your area to assist you with completing the survey in person.
The anonymised data collected will be analysed to produce statistical reports on crime and victimisation in Ireland. These reports will be published on the CSO website and will serve as a valuable resource for understanding crime patterns, informing policy decisions, and evaluating the impact of crime prevention strategies.
Protecting your confidentiality is at the heart of everything we do. Your confidentiality is guaranteed by law under the Statistics Act, 1993, which means no individual, household or enterprise can be identified from the data we publish. The information you provide is generalised, so nobody is identifiable from the data you provide and it is only used for statistical purposes. We’d like to thank you for your trust in us.
Because confidentiality is so important to our work, we have developed a Trust & Transparency page.
