Sunshine by Meteorological Weather Station

The information we present on this page is related to sunshine information based on data from Met Éireann.

Met Éireann has a network of weather stations across the country that gather weather data. These stations provide data in monthly, daily and/or hourly intervals. These stations gather data on serveral variables, including rainfall, sunshine duration, temperature and wind.

The CSO presents data from 12 of these weather stations:

• Belmullet, Casement, Claremorris, Cork Airport, Dublin Airport, Malin Head, Markree, Mullingar, Phoenix Park, Roches Point, Shannon Airport, Valentia Observatory.

All the currently available climate related tables are accessible on the CSO Open Data Platform.

Monthly Sunshine Data

This section presents the monthly aggregate for sunshine duration in hours. The table presents the sunshine duration for the most recent six months available in the data table for Shannon Airport, Dublin Airport, Cork Airport and Casement. The plot shows the sunshine duration for the most recent fourteen months available for the same weather stations.

Data for more months and more weather stations is available in the monthly Sunshine Duration data table MTM07.

Daily Sunshine Data

This section presents the daily aggregate for sunshine duration in hours. The table presents the sunshine duration for the most recent 10 days available in the data table for Casement, Dublin Airport, Cork Airport and Shannon Airport. The plot shows the sunshine duration for the most recent 30 days available in the data table for the same weather stations.

Hourly Sunshine Data

This section presents the sunshine duration for each hour. The table presents the sunshine duration for the most recent full day of data available in the data table for Casement, Dublin Airport, Cork Airport and Shannon Airport. The chart shows the duration of sunshine across a 24 hour period for Casement weather station for the most recent five full days of data available in the data set.
