The number of births falls by 828 (5.0%) while deaths are up by 211 (2.3%) compared to the same period in 2017.

There were 15,659 births in quarter 1 2018, 828 births, or 5.0%, less than the same period in 2017.  This corresponds to a birth rate of 13.1 per 1,000 population, a decrease of 0.8 from quarter 1 2017.

There were 9,278 deaths in quarter 1 2018, an increase of 2.3% (or 211 deaths) from quarter 1 2017.  This equates to a death rate of 7.7 per 1,000 population, the same as quarter 1 2017.

There were 55 infant deaths registered in quarter 1 2018 giving an infant mortality rate of 3.5 per 1,000 live births.

The number of births less the number of deaths in quarter 1 2018 resulted in a natural increase of population of 6,381 persons.
