The number of births increased by 197 (1.3%) while deaths are up by 277 (3.8%) compared to the same period in 2017.

There were 15,419 births in quarter 2 2018, 197 births or 1.3% more than the same period in 2017.  This corresponds to a birth rate of 12.7 per 1,000 population, the same as quarter 2 2017.

There were 7,592 deaths in quarter 2 2018, an increase of 3.8% (or 277 deaths) from quarter 2 2017.  This equates to a death rate of 6.3 per 1,000 population, an increase of 0.2 points from quarter 2 2017.

There were 47 infant deaths registered in quarter 2 2018 giving an infant mortality rate of 3.0 per 1,000 live births.

The number of births less the number of deaths in quarter 2 2018 resulted in a natural increase of population of 7,827 persons.
