The number of births decreased by 1,976 (14.6%) and deaths decreased by 1,882 (21.9%) compared to the same period in 2020.

There were 11,551 births in quarter 2 2021, 1,976 births or 14.6% less than the same period in 2020. This corresponds to a birth rate of 9.2 per 1,000 population, a decrease of 1.7 as recorded in quarter 2 2020.

There were 6,700 deaths in quarter 2 2021, a decrease of 21.9% (or 1,882 deaths) from quarter 2 2020. This equates to a death rate of 5.3 per 1,000 population, a decrease of 1.6 points from quarter 2 2020.

There were 29 infant deaths registered in quarter 2 2021 giving an infant mortality rate of 2.5 per 1,000 live births.

The number of births less the number of deaths in quarter 2 2021 resulted in a natural increase of population of 4,851 persons.
