- In terms of median income in of purchasers in 2024, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown was the local authority with the highest amount, at €127,600.
- Leitrim was the county with the lowest median income, of €54,900
- The county with the biggest percentage increase in median income among purchasers between 2023 and 2024 was Roscommon, which went up 16%, from €54,700 to €63,200.
- Looking more specifically at LEAs, home purchasers in Pembroke, Dublin City, had the highest median income in 2024 at €152,400
- Carndonagh in Donegal had a median income among purchasers of €33,300, the lowest among the LEAs.
- Broken down by sole and joint purchasers, the highest median income for sole purchasers in 2024 was in Dublin’s South East Inner City at €91,900.
- Pembroke retained the highest joint income, with a value of €211,500 in 2024.
- The median income among purchasers in Carrick-on-Shannon, in Leitrim, increased by 39% between 2023 and 2024, from €48,300 to €66,900.
- Among five-year age groups, the 35 – 40 group had the highest median income nationally, at €93,100
The median incomes by the different purchaser types for 2024 were as follows:
- €105,200 for joint purchasers with child/children
- €97,300 for joint purchasers without child/children
- €55,500 for sole purchasers without child/children
- €52,800 for sole purchasers with child/children
- Looking at the ratio of national median income for purchasers in comparison to national median home prices, in 2019 the median price was 3.85 times the median income.
- This ratio fell to 3.7 in 2020 but rose to 3.95 in 2021 and again to 4.03 in 2022.
- More recently, the ratio rose to 4.08 in 2023 and 4.2 in 2024
- Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown was the area with the highest price to income ratio, with the median home price at 5.2 times the median income.
- The lowest ratio was found in Roscommon, where the median home price was 3 times the median income.
- The age group with the lowest price to income ratio was the 50 - 55 age group, who bought homes at 3 times their income.
- The under 35 age group bought homes at 5 times their income on average.
- Sole purchasers with children had the highest price to income ratio out of all purchaser types, with home purchases costing on average 11.7 times their median income.
