Some 195,741 PRSA contributors were PAYE employees in 2024.
The largest number of contributors were employed in Human Health and Social Work Activities at 27,718 contributors.
The largest number of new contributors were employed in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities at 4,457 contributors.
Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing had the lowest number of contributors in both the overall (1,845) and new contributors (337) categories.
The highest relative number of non-standard PRSA contributors was in the Construction sector at 39.3% of 9,988 contributors.
The lowest relative number of non-standard PRSA contributors was in Information and Communication at 27.8% of 15,069 contributors.
The highest relative amount of new non-standard PRSA contributors was in the Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sector at 81% of 337 contributors.
The sector with the largest total assets value was Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles with some €1.5bn (€697M in standard assets, €773M in non-standard assets). The sector where new contributors accounted for the most assets was also Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles with some €306M (€44M in standard assets, €262M in non-standard assets).
The largest median assets value overall was in the non-standard PRSAs of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate Activities employees at €27,440.
Just two NACE sectors had median PRSA assets value in standard PRSAs greater than non-standard PRSAs: Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing with €17,703 for standard PRSAs compared with €16,810 for non-standard PRSAs, and Accommodation and Food Service Activities with €12,185 for standard PRSAs compared with €9,912 for non-standard PRSAs
The largest median assets amongst new contributors was in the Finance, Insurance and Real Estate Activities sector at a value of €11,105 for non-standard PRSAs.
The highest median weekly earnings for all contributors in 2024 was in the Information and Communication sector at €1,700 per week for standard PRSA contributors, and €1,674 per week for non-standard PRSA contributors.
The lowest median weekly earnings for all contributors was in the Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sector at €667 for standard PRSA contributors and €687 for non-standard PRSA contributors.
Overall, the median weekly earnings for non-standard PRSA contributors was €1,044 which is slightly higher than the median weekly earning for standard PRSA contributors at €1,012.
The NACE economic sector with the largest proportion that made a contribution in 2024 were employees in Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities contributing to non-standard PRSAs at 56.8% The NACE economic sector with the lowest proportion that made a contribution in 2024 were employees in Construction contributing to standard PRSAs at 32.8%.
Enterprises with 250 employees and over had the largest number of contributors at 77,787, while the largest number of new contributors were in enterprises with 10 – 49 employees at 9,784.
The category with the highest proportion of non-standard PRSA contributors was enterprises with 0 – 9 employees, at 41.3%. The highest proportion of standard PRSA contributors was in enterprises with 50 -249 employees at 70.4%.
Across all enterprise size categories, non-standard PRSA contributors had a higher proprtion of employees who made a contribution, compared with standard PRSA contributors.
The largest proprtion to have made a contribution in 2024 are those in enterprises that had 0 – 9 employees, with non-standard PRSAs, at a rate of 61.2%.
The largest proportion to have made a contribution in 2024 are those enterprises that had 250 employees and over, with standard PRSAs, at a rate of 35.7%.
