Wholesale Price Index June 2025

Wholesale electricity prices fell by over 12% in the month to June 2025

Key Findings

  • Wholesale electricity prices fell by 12.2% in the month to June 2025 and were 11.6% lower than June 2024.

  • Domestic producer prices for manufactured goods were on average 0.5% higher in June 2025 compared with a year earlier, while producer prices for exported goods were down by 5.2%. Overall, manufacturing producer prices were 4.6% lower in the year.

  • Producer prices for food products increased by 4.2% in the 12 months to June 2025, while the Food Products, Beverages & Tobacco Index was up by 3.2%.

  • Some of the most notable changes in producer prices for food products over the 12 months to June 2025 were: Dairy Products (+22.0%), Meat & Meat Products (+6.4%), and Vegetables & Animal Oils & Fats (-16.2%).

  • The most noteworthy changes in other producer prices in the year to June 2025 were: Chemicals & Chemical Products (+17.3%), Furniture (+2.7%), Beverages (-4.0%), Mining & Quarrying (-3.7%), and Rubber & Plastic Products (-3.1%).

  • Wholesale prices for construction products were unchanged in the month to June 2025 but rose by 0.7% in the 12 months since June 2024.

Statistician's Comment

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (22 July 2025) published the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for June 2025.

Commenting on the release, Deirdre Toher, Statistician in the Prices Division, said:

“Wholesale price inflation showed a decrease in June 2025 with a 2.0% decline in the overall Producer Price Index for manufacturing industries in the month.

The price index for export sales was down by 2.3% since May 2025, while the index for home sales was down by 0.2% in the month.

Producer prices for products sold on the domestic market were 0.5% higher in June 2025 compared with June 2024. In the 12 months to June 2025, export producer prices fell by 5.2%, while overall producer prices were down by 4.6%.

Electricity Prices

Wholesale electricity prices dropped by 12.2% in June 2025 when compared with May 2025 and were 11.6% lower than June 2024. They have fallen by 75.4% when compared with the peak that occurred in August 2022.

Construction Products

The All Materials Index for construction products saw no change in June 2025 but rose by 0.7% in the 12 months since June 2024. The Building & Construction Index (i.e. Materials and Wages) was unchanged in the month but was 1.9% higher than the same month last year (See Tables 3 and 4).”

Wholesale prices for construction products increased by 0.7% over the 12 months to June 2025

Notable annual increases and decreases in construction products as shown in Table 3 include:

  • All Other Metal Fittings: (+7.4%)
  • Plaster: (+5.4%)
  • Ready Mixed Mortar & Concrete: (+4.0%)
  • Concrete Blocks & Bricks: (+4.0%)
  • Plumbing Materials including Sanitary Ware: (+3.2%)
  • Reinforcing Metal: (-3.3%)

The Building & Construction Index (i.e. Materials and Wages) was unchanged in the month to June 2025 but was up by 1.9% in the 12 months to June 2025. This index combines the All Materials Index with a measure of the change of wages in the Construction sector to provide an overall index for input construction costs (See Table 4).

Wholesale electricity prices decreased by 11.6% annually

There was a fall of 12.2% in the price of wholesale electricity in June 2025. The price of electricity was 11.6% lower than in June 2024 and was 75.4% lower when compared with the peak that occurred in August 2022.

The price index for all energy fuels rose by 0.2% in June 2025 but was down by 9.8% in the year since June 2024.

The overall Energy Products Index was down by 9.0% since May 2025 and was 11.1% lower when compared with June 2024 (See Figure 3 and Table 5).
