Ireland imported over 83 million litres of wine in 2017, an increase of 16% on the 2012 level of imports of 72 million litres. The total value of wine imports in 2017 was €278 million, and over 96% of total wine imports came from ten countries.
The largest partner country was Chile, with almost €50 million of wine imports, followed by France with €48 million of wine imports. While the value of imports from Chile only exceeded that of France by less than €2 million, there were 16.6 million litres of wine imported from Chile, compared with 11 million litres from France.

Exports of beer in 2017 were valued at €275 million, which in volume terms was 436 million litres of beer. The main export market was the UK, with 305 million litres of beer exported.
In 2017, Ireland imported 249 million litres of beer at a value of €166 million, of which 126 million litres, or €79 million came from the UK, also our largest import partner.

There were almost 30 million litres of whiskey exported from Ireland in 2017. Of this, 14 million litres (47% of the total) were exported to the USA, which is 12 million litres bigger than the next biggest market, Latvia. There were 1.6 million litres of whiskey imported in 2017, with almost 1 million litres coming from the UK.
