Micro and small enterprises account for 33% of all imports
There were 31,065 importing enterprises in 2016 (i.e. with goods imports of over €5,000 in the year). Almost 70% of these enterprises are classified as micro (less than 10 employees), and these accounted for €12.7 billion, or 17% of total imports.
Imports by large enterprises totalled €25.1 billion, or 34% of total imports.
Only 2% of all importing enterprises in 2016 were large in size but they imported over a third of total imports in 2016. There were 28,998 SMEs importing in 2016 accounting for over €45 billion of goods.
