Public Transport usage in September continued to exceed pre-pandemic numbers

Bus transport volumes continued to exceed pre-COVID-19 volumes in September 2023.

The number of bus journeys in Dublin for week 39 of 2023 (the week beginning 25 September 2023) was 10% higher compared with the number of journeys in the same week in 2019. Comparing the same week with 2022, there was a 14% increase in the number of bus journeys in Dublin.

The number of bus journeys outside of Dublin for week 39 of 2023 exceeded 2019 figures by 17% and was up by 7% when compared with the same week in 2022.

Luas journeys for week 39 of 2023 climbed by 5% when compared with the same week in 2022 but were down 2% in comparison to the same week in 2019 (See Figure 3.2).

Rail journeys are reported in table THA24 under “Data”. Please note that there are no comparable 2019 data available for rail journeys.

(Data for rail journeys includes passenger journeys on Intercity and DART services.)
