CSO statistical release, , 11am

Traffic count data remained slightly below 2019 figures

Source: Transport Infrastructure Ireland

Car traffic count data remained below 2019 figures (pre-COVID-19 pandemic), but only slightly. For the last week in September 2022 (week 39), car traffic volumes in Dublin were 4% lower than the same week in 2019. For regional traffic, a similar pattern occurred, with the value for week 39 in 2022 being 7% lower than the same week in 2019.  See figure 1.1 and figure 1.2

Please note that the timing of the summer holidays can impact on the yearly comparison of traffic count data.

HGV traffic count data were up on 2019 and 2021 values, with Dublin showing a 1% increase for week 39 versus the same week in 2019. The regional data showed a 7% increase for the same period. See figure 1.3 and figure 1.4.
