Public transport usage continues to surpass pre-pandemic figures

Passenger numbers in May 2023 up 3% compared with May 2019 for Dublin, Cork, Knock and Shannon airports combined

The number of passengers in Dublin airport in May 2023 was 17% higher than May 2022, and 2% higher than that seen in the same month in 2019 (before COVID-19). There were 3,027,112 passengers handled by Dublin airport in May 2023 compared with 2,965,517 passengers in May 2019.

Looking at May 2023, figures show that the number of passengers handled by Cork airport was 29% higher than May 2022 figures, and 10% higher than those seen in the same month in 2019 (before COVID-19). For Shannon airport, the number of passengers was 11% higher in May 2023 compared with May 2022 and 33% higher than May 2019. There were 3,539,559 passengers handled by Dublin, Cork, Knock and Shannon airports in May 2023 compared with 3,439,346 for the same month in 2019.

(Note: Knock airport was closed from April to June 2020 and from February to May 2021. Cork Airport was closed in October 2021. Data for Kerry not available at time of publication.)
