- Social protection expenditure in 2023 amounted to €63.5 billion. This was an increase of €4.3 billion (7%) on 2022.
- Spending on the Sickness function was €27.6bn.
- Spending on the Old Age function was €16.8bn.
- Spending on Family Function was €5.7bn.
- Spending on the Housing function was €3.6bn.
- Spending on the Disability function was €3.3bn.
- Spending on the Unemployment function was €2.4bn.
- Spending on Administration was €2.2bn.
- Spending the Survivor function was €1.5bn.
- Spending on the Social Exclusion function was €0.4bn.
