Social protection expenditure in 2021 amounted to €59.1 billion. This was an increase of €1.2 billion (2.2%) on 2020.
Spending on the Sickness function was €23.6bn.
Spending on the Old Age function was €15.9bn.
Spending on the Unemployment function was €6.1bn.
Spending on Family Function was €4.8bn.
Spending on the Disability function was €2.8bn.
Spending on the the Housing function was €2.2bn.
Spending on Administration was €2bn.
Spending the Survivor function was €1.4bn.
Spending on Social Exclusion function was €0.3bn.
