The largest monthly volume decreases were recorded in Clothing, Footwear & Textiles (-9.7%), Books, Newspapers & Stationery (-5.5%), and Bars (-3.5%).
Three sectors showed monthly volume increases: Hardware, Paints & Glass (+5.3%), Electrical Goods (+2.0%), and Furniture & Lighting (+0.4%).
The largest annual volume declines in June 2024 were in Clothing, Footwear & Textiles (-6.0%), Department Stores (-3.6%), Non-Specialised Stores (incl. Supermarkets) (-3.5%), and Furniture & Lighting (-2.4%).
Sectors showing annual volume growth in June 2024 were Electrical Goods (+12.9%), Hardware, Paints & Glass (+2.1%), and Fuel (+0.3%).
The proportion of Retail Sales transacted online (from Irish registered companies) was 4.9% in June 2024 compared with 4.8% in May 2024 and 5.8% in June 2023.
The June 2024 (Provisional) period covers the five weeks from 02/06/24 to 06/07/24, while the May 2024 (Final) period covers the four weeks from 05/05/24 to 01/06/24.

The proportion of Retail Sales transacted online (from Irish registered companies) was 4.9% in June 2024 and 4.8% in May 2024, compared with 5.8% in June 2023. Excluding Motor Trades, the proportion of Retail Sales transacted online was 6.3% in both June 2024 and May 2024, compared with 7.6% in June 2023.

Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (30 July 2024) released Retail Sales Index June 2024 (Provisional) and May 2024 (Final).
Commenting on the release, Tommy Allen, Statistician in the Enterprise Statistics Division, said: "The volume of Retail Sales fell by 1.4% in June 2024 when compared with May 2024 on a seasonally adjusted basis. On an annual basis, retail volumes were 1.8% lower than in June 2023. When Motor Trades are excluded, the volume of Retail Sales decreased by 0.4% in the month and fell by 2.0% in the year when compared with June 2023 (See Headline Table, Tables 1 & 2, and Figure 1).
