The Dublin & Mid-East region's Entrepreneurial Income grew by 88% (+€233m) to €497m

The Dublin & Mid-East Region (Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow) is the largest producer of Crops and Horses, producing 24% of all Irish Crops and 28% of Irish Horses. It generated a third of the Cereals, 58% of the Potatoes, and 66% of the Fresh Fruit grown in the State. It has the second lowest dependency on Livestock, which accounted for just 31% of its Agricultural Output at Basic Prices. Milk generated 23% of the region’s output.

The region’s Agricultural Output at Basic Prices was up by 8% (+€117m) to €1.6bn. Livestock production rose by 3% (+€17m) to €505m, with Horses accounting for €10m of this growth and Sheep a further €5m. The value of Milk rose by 16% (+€50m) to €370m while Crop values were up by 9% (+€54m) to €683m. Potatoes accounted for €28m of this increase with their value rising 22% to €152m. Cereal values increased by 9% (+€10m) to €126m while Fresh Vegetables were up 16% (+€15m) to €111m.

The region had the highest rate of reduction (-9%) in Intermediate Consumption costs, which fell by €85m to €860m. The cost of Fertilisers dropped by 38% (-€44m) to €73m, while expenditure on Feeding Stuffs was down 7% (-€13m) to €175m. The cost of Maintenance & Repairs fell by 26% (-€21m) to €62m and Crop Protection Products contracted by 14% (-€5m) to €30m. Payments for Other Subsidies less Taxes on Production increased by 19% (+€29m) to €182m. The net impact of all the changes on the region’s income was a rise of 69% (+€253m) to €618m in Operating Surplus, while its Entrepreneurial Income grew by 88% (+€233m) to €497m (See Table 1.2).
