Dublin & Mid-East Region

Dublin & Mid-East region was the largest producer of Crops in the State in 2022, 26% (€683m) of the State's total

The Dublin & Mid-East Region (Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow) was the largest producer of Crops in the state, accounting for 26% of the State’s totals. Crops generated 40% of the region’s Agricultural Output at Basic Prices. As a proportion of their national value, it produced one-third of the value of Cereals, 36% of Fresh Vegetables, and 62% of Fresh Fruit. It was also the smallest producer of Livestock, producing just 11% of the State’s output. While at a national level it was the smallest producer of Livestock, it still generated 29% of the region’s Agricultural Output at Basic Prices. As the State’s largest producer of Horses, breeding 28% of these animals, Horses contributed 5% to the region’s output.

The value of the region’s Agricultural Output at Basic Prices grew by 24% (+€333m) to €1.7bn. Livestock production rose by 12% (+€51m) to €489m. At €304m, the value of Cattle was up by 17% (+€43m) while Horse values increased by just 3% (+€3m) to €89m. The value of Milk production grew by 49% (+€149m) to €449m. Crop output rose by 21% (+€117m) to €683m. With an increase of 46%, Cereal values were up by €72m to €231m. The value of Potato production fell by 9% (-€9m) to €87m. Fresh Vegetables and Fresh Fruit values both grew up by 6%, bringing their combined value to €132m.

Intermediate Consumption costs increased by 27% (+€203m) to €957m. The cost of Feedings Stuffs, Fertilisers, and Energy & Lubricants grew by 30% (+€44m), 86% (+€76m), and 40% (+€23m) respectively, bringing their combined cost to €435m for the year. The region’s Operating Surplus was up 28% (+€132m) to €601m (See Tables 1.2 and 7.1).
