This release includes information on the maximum daily air temperatures at Dublin Airport (See Table 5) and daily mean wind speed at Dublin Airport (See Table 6). Low maximum daily air temperatures in winter usually increases the demand for household heating. The amount of wind can influence the balance between electricity generated from natural gas and wind turbines. Gas customer types are categorised based on their annual consumption. Note that in Ireland, the Gas Day begins at 5 am. See the Background Notes for the full definition of gas customer types.
The data behind this month’s release incorporates methodology improvements, with daily supply figures now including additional factors such as stock gas changes, unaccounted for gas, and own gas usage. These methodology improvements have resulted in slight revisions to the historic daily supply figures. This release contains new data covering the period January to March 2025 to ensure users have access to the data as timely as possible. The data for April 2025 will be in published in our usual monthly release format.
In the first three months of 2025, Imports were 5.7% higher and Indigenous Production was down 13.3% compared with the same period in 2024. Gas demand by Power Plants was 4.7% higher when comparing the 12-month rolling period of April 2024-March 2025 with April 2023-March 2024 (See Table A).

In March 2025, there were 21 days with a higher maximum daily air temperature recorded at Dublin Airport than in March 2024. This was likely a contributing factor to gas demand by Non-Daily Metered customers being 11% lower in March 2025 compared with March 2024. (See Tables 4C and 5).
In March 2025, there were 19 days with a lower daily mean wind speed recorded at Dublin Airport than in March 2024. This was likely a contributing factor to gas demand by Power Plants being 13% higher in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (See Figure 3, Tables 4B, and 6). Statistician's Comment
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has today (20 June 2025) published Networked Gas Daily Supply and Demand January-March 2025.
Commenting on the release, Deirdre Moran, Statistician in the Climate and Energy Division, said: “This release contains new data covering the period January to March 2025. In the first three months of 2025, total networked gas supply was 2% higher compared with the same period in 2024 (See Table A).
In the first three months of 2025, Indigenous Production was down 13% and imports were up 6% compared with the same period in 2024 (See Table A).
Comparing the first three months of 2025 with the same period in 2024, networked gas by customer category showed the following trends: Power Plants (+5%); Large Daily Metered (-2%); Non-Daily Metered (-1%), and Daily Metered (+0.3%) (See Tables A and 2B to 2E).
Power Plants accounted for 57% of total gas demand in the first three months of 2025, while Non-Daily Metered customers, who are largely domestic users and small businesses, represented 28% of total gas demand (See Tables 2A to 2C).
March 2025 Trends
Total networked gas supply in March 2025 was 4,923 gigawatt hours (GWh). The March supply figure was 4% higher than the March 2024 figure of 4,736 GWh (See Table 1A).
In March 2025, Indigenous Production was 15% lower and imports rose 9%, compared with March 2024 (See Tables 1B, 1C, and Figure 1).
Total gas demand in March 2025 was 4,851 GWh which was 4% higher than the March 2024 figure of 4,660 GWh (See Table 2A).
In March 2025, gas demand by Power Plants was 13% higher compared with March 2024, and 4% lower when compared with March 2023 (See Table 2B).
In March 2025, Power Plants accounted for 60% of total gas demand, while Non-Daily Metered customers represented 23% of total gas demand (See Figure 2 and Tables 2A to 2C).
Weather-Related Data
In March 2025, there were 21 days with a higher maximum daily air temperature recorded at Dublin Airport than in March 2024. This was likely a contributing factor to gas demand by Non-Daily Metered customers being 11% lower in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (See Tables 4C and 5).
In March 2025, there were 19 days with a lower daily mean wind speed recorded at Dublin Airport than in March 2024. This was likely a contributing factor to gas demand by Power Plants being 13% higher in March 2025 compared with March 2024 (See Figure 3, Tables 4B, and 6).”
