An increase in Compensation of Employees by 2.4% in Q1 2022

First quarter of 2022 sees Compensation of Employees increase by 15% compared to corresponding period of previous year following some easing of restrictions. All sectors experienced growth this quarter compared to corresponding period of previous year. Largest increase was seen in Arts, Entertainment and Other Services (42%), Construction (33.7%) and Distribution, Transport, Hotels and Restaurants (23.8%)

On a seasonally adjusted basis, total Compensation of Employees increased by 2.4% compared to the previous quarter. All sectors experienced an increase this quarter compared to the previous. Largest increase in growth quarter on quarter can be seen in Real Estate Activities (4.6%), Professional, Admin and Support Services (4.5%) and Industry (excl. Construction) (3.3%).

A decrease in total Employment Wage Subsidy in Q1 2022 compared to the previous quarter. Distribution, Transport, Hotels and Restaurants receives the largest amount of EWSS payments.

Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme payments make up 2.1% of total Compensation of Employees this quarter. The Arts, Entertainment and Other Services sector EWSS payments as a percentage of Compensation of Employees sees a decrease this quarter, from to 17% down to 10%.

The Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme replaced the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme from 1 September 2020. More information on the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme is available on the Revenue.ie website.
